This isn’t a substantive criticism, but one aimed at helping adoption: the word “scrine” does not feel remotely joyful to me. It seems like a combination of “scream” and “whine.” It feels sharp, in the bobo vs. kiki sense. I imagine I will be impaled on the tines of a scrine.

Haha, thank you. A scrine is an old word for a box where scrolls got kept, so scroll + shrine. But yes, said out loud it does sound like something with teeth.

This seems like the very opposite of reading. How can you understand anything when your context is interrupted after a sentence or two? Flow is impossible.

Even a page flip is less disruptive than scrolling because it doesn’t use the same part of the brain.

A wall of text is much easier to read than something broken up because you can stay in flow.

    > Walls of text are why books pile up unread.

Source on this? Is there research on this, or is this meant to be obvious and intuitive?

This might bring young boys and girls to read books. Thanks. Atleast they can start reading some lines

Is this real? This feels like a parody of a product aimed at a straw man generation so addicted to tiktok that they can't possibly read anything longer than a few words at a time.

As someone who is a member of this generation and has been using a similar utility I AI generated, yeah it helps a lot. The most consequential advantage for me has been it preventing me from getting into a loop of losing concentration during a long and obtuse/boring paragraph and then having to start back at the beginning of the paragraph again.

In the past getting through that loop came at the cost of comprehension because I would read the words just to get through the paragraph without entertaining any side thoughts, but now I can safely process a sentence, think about it, and return when I'm ready without losing my place. It's frankly been my favorite way to read books lately.

Fair, thank you. It’s meant to meet people where they are. The swipe habit and fried attention already exist, so this puts a book in that format to help someone start reading on their own and find self guided learning entertaining. There’s a normal page view if the swipe is not needed. I’d say reading one or two lines at a time is better than most tiktok feeds.
