Summary: The New York Times reported that Mary Peltola's Democratic campaign for Alaska's Senate seat recruited a candidate with the same name as Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan on the ballot, in a bid to confuse voters.

Honestly seems fair game to me - he did qualify to get on the ballot by going through the primary system and ranking #3 (with 2.5% of the vote). Top 4 get on the ballot.

Stooping to the level of “dirty pool” tactics signals a lack of confidence and integrity

    So I have two questions:

    1. If this is illegal (it isn't [0] ruled by Alaska Supreme Court in June, 2026) then why wasn't the uproar done much earlier? You know the reason. Certain presidents (who shall remain nameless) are desperate beyond measure.

Epstein investigations and revelation of hidden material coming?

    2. A bit of trolling HN with repeated duplicate posts? Grow up, kiddies.

Did you read the NYT article?

The recent development is that the former campaign manager admitted to the scheme. Before that it was strict denial that they coordinated it, including under oath.

      > And the republicans have done this many times.

When have they coordinated getting a second person with the same name on the ballot to confuse voters?

      how is it legal exactly?
      • nonethewiseran hour ago
I dont think there is any law the scheme breaks. People dont seem to be reading the article though.

The recent development is that there is now news that her team coordinated it. She previously stated under oath that they did not, which is opening up the door for perjury which is of course illegal.

        > how is it legal exactly?

There's, apparently, no law making it illegal. Which is how most things that are legal are legal. What are you confused about?

everyone: Democrats need to fight as low as Republicans have done for decades!

    political hacks: let's do it!

everyone: omg Democrats did something as devious as Republicans! stop them!

this was really stupid though because with Ranked Choice Voting you could have a DOZEN candidates with the same name and it wouldn't matter

literally doesn't help either party with ranked choice, not in the slightest

    so stupid

    but this is funnier

      Slight correction:

NYT: omg Democrats did something devious! stop them! Don't look at the Trump rape allegations while you're at it.
