It’s impossible for this car to beat the vaporware allegations. If you see the car that “flies” in the video… it’s a prototype on a ladder frame chassis with no driver. It’s not even a tech demo, it’s a publicity stunt.

None of these ‘groundbreaking’ features will make it to market, mark my words.

And is anybody actually able to suffer through the entire presentation? My entire body writhed with cringe when I had to listen to Musk make up a VMAX target of ‘Mach 0.5’.

Mate Rimac made a good point when the Tesla Roadster’s rocket boosters were announced. There are MAJOR major downsides, including massive added equipment weight (tanks, compressors, valves, and nozzles) that acts as dead weight immediately after the air/gas is expended in 2 to 3 seconds, which completely overloads tires and chassis dynamics.

This dork is trying to impress people with attention-grabbing impossibilities once again. The Cybertruck is totally different to the concept he unveiled. It sucks and this will too.

Mate I just watched a car drive upside down on the ceiling and then fly.

This attitude reminds me of the NASAbros who insisted rockets couldn't be made reusable, and the only option was to throw away your $50b rocket every time you launch. For decades they blew up trillions of dollars in rockets, insisting that it had to be done that way. It didn't, it turns out you can just reuse them.

        Rockets, cool.

Teslas can’t drive themselves, you can’t lease out your Model 3 as an autonomous taxi. The Cybertruck isn’t bulletproof, doesn’t have a 500mi range and it didn’t launch for under $40k. You can’t do a 90-second battery swap on any Tesla.

Yes, we all saw what looked like a car do a flip. But judge Tesla on their actions, not dumbass statements Elon makes on a stage.

      Its all doable tho.

McMurtry Spéirling already demonstrates that riding on walls is possible with its fan producing twice the required force.

Flying can be an additional module you install for a one time jump, a gimmick.

Even acceleration is plausible considering McMurtry numbers.

But that's the whole point. It's a gimick. Just like half the features on the cybertruck, which either don't work in reality or make little to no sense.

This car is going to be fantastic for people who run over cliffs alot

While the flip is technically very impressive (assuming they can reproduce it live) I can't see any real world scenario where any of this stuff is remotely useful.

How is the fan going to cope with the debris on a typical road?

How is driving around in close proximity to high pressure gases not an accident waiting to happen?

Given Musk's track record on fulfilling his promises, I'm not holding my breath that it is ever going to make it onto a race track. Let alone beat every track record.

The full aerodynamics package version (aka the flying car) is invite only and apparently mostly for show. But the basic suction fan and gas thrusters version for acceleration will definitely make people go crazy on race tracks. Imagine a Top Fuel dragster-like acceleration in a car that can go more than 1000ft. Heck, if they set up a real league with this, it might get me back into watching motorsports for the first time in a decade.

I wonder if the Roadster can seriously compete with the McMurtry Spéirling Pure. It’s lightweight and has crazy active aero. The Roadster has the thrusters, but I can’t imagine those lasting long if the race is long enough. (i understand it “refuels”, but I can’t imagine that being quick or energy efficient).

Personally, I find that the more tech there is in a motorsport, the more boring it is to watch. F1 being a prime example. YMMV

Aah, like a young grasshopper. Just what we needed, thanks Elon.

Such trolling is not funny at all in this economy.

What the world needs? Serving ruthless drivers with dangerous cars having ... things (wouldn’t call it feature) impossible to use legally and safely in the traffic. Thought Elon and his servants made one for him. What employees of Tesla think? Do they? Or just following orders? I have no respect for them. They could make good and safe cars for everyone, instead they made toys for tall children.

I hope it will not get license to participate in the traffic.

It's just for the buzz, while impressive this will never go on a production vehicle.

Why the payments and reservations then?

Compare this to the Jaguar type 01, both made as a statement. Tesla shows real guts to do something new, instead of just talking like Jaguar.

That said can't wait for a millionaire to pressure cook some grandma at a junction /s.

I thought the actual finished Jag turned out pretty cool. Nice to see a gt that takes design risks. Looking forward to seeing one on the road.

From a visual perspective it's ok, but put this two cars side by side, which one does feel more "Copy Nothing", at lest for me that answer is obvious.
