I called Mike Johnson's office earlier this week, even though I'm not a constituent, he is the Speaker of the House and a Trump whisperer... to remind him that Ukraine is the brightest burning beacon of democracy right now and that the real cause of higher diesel prices is Trump's own forever war with Iran, and that it is unacceptable to harm Ukraine's effort to defend themselves because of these misguided associations.

202-225-2777 (DC office) Leave a message saying something similar, make it personal if you can.

This kind of civic engagement is actually impactful. They tally up the general sentiments to help inform what they do.

I admire your attitude and encourage other US citizens to follow your example.

I despair that the gangster mentality that the current administration has will simply continue unless they are removed from office.

I found my local Indivisible at the end of a NoKings march earlier this year. Working with others to make a difference is such an amazing cure to the malaise the plagues our society.

We have this super cool book club where each of us reads different books and brings our learnings back to the group. We last discussed voting rights and now visions for the future of our democracy. Early on I said something like "it's all well and good we talk about stuff, but how to we spread the word of the things we are learning?" We formed a new Zine Club and produce little 8-fold mini zines on all sorts of topics.

I cannot understate how motivating it is to work towards a better future with other people in the flesh. I tried that twitter/bluesky keyboard warrioring, but that was so toxic I found myself in a bad place. I have since sworn off all the Big Social platforms with feeds and reports. Also life improving. HN more than fills my tech news needs.
