Author here. First of all, thank you to the Harmonic app by Simon Halvdansson (https://github.com/SimonHalvdansson/Harmonic-HN). I know many (most?) of you prefer to use the no frills layout of the hacker news wesite and I totally respect that. But I really enjoy using the Harmonic app on my android phone which has a much more modren layout and is visually appealing and easier to use for me. I disliked using the plain-old hacker news on my computer and found myself going back again to my phone to scroll HN.

HarmoNova brings many of the features I love about Harmonic to the desktop browser, including a modern, card-based layout for stories and comments, color-coded comment threads, article preview images, favicons, and a bunch of customization options. It also has a split-pane layout, so you can browse stories and read discussions side by side.

My favorite is the AI summarization tool that summarizes the linked HN post article or the HN discussion. It currently uses openrouter using your own key.

I built this to scratch my own itch to have a better HN layout on my computer. You may or may not like it. I thought I should opensource it in case there's anyone who would also prefer a more modern HN layout on their computer. Cheers!

Looks great, thanks for sharing. Does it have seen posts tracking and subsequent hiding?

Yes, it does. By default, it dims your seen posts, but you can set them to be hidden in settings. Go to Settings -> Stories -> Hide read stories
