Consciousness is the subjective experience of being aware. Having an inner point of view.

But, consciousness in others isn’t something we prove. It is something we grant and we should be very careful about whom or what we grant it to.

What's really intriguing with people believing LLMs are conscious is that they accept that consciousness is a fully deterministic thing: a machine that can be made to always ever give the exact same answer to the exact same input (which some models can do) would be... Conscious?

To me that's even more WTF than talking about consciousness: deterministic consciousness.

      What a concept.

A lot of these arguments are based in embodiment and sensory input. That's fair.

But I can't help noticing that I spend the bulk of my workday in disembodied virtual spaces, and that in those spaces, agents act and "move around" in ways that is not too different from ways that make sense to me too.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Make of that what you will.

Can we prove that rocks aren’t conscious?
