People sometimes as me how/when I got into AI. And the conversation inevitably includes references to Knight Rider, Whiz Kids, War Games, Max Headroom, etc. I grew up on this stuff and it all shaped a lot of my early attitudes about AI.

Needless to say, reality hasn't quite sync'd up with what I expected. That said, I'm pretty happy with the progress that's been made on AI from a technical point of view. But some of the decisions made by humans about the details of training the AI's we have, and how they have been employed.... well, let's just say that leaves a lot to be desired. :-(

I grew up a trekkie, and if the untold history was one where humans stopped looking at the code, all the computer glitches make so much more sense

Knight Rider is a show I remember too, though I don't think it shaped my opinions much, closer to Air Wolf and A-team, action explosion entertainment
