Pretty annoying. This opened my eyes that these new gTLDs should never be used for serious business. Our client has suffered serious damage in the thousands because of this downtime.

It seems that GMO Registry (A Japanese company) owns the .shop extension and their DNS server (a.gmoregistry.net) is down. I assume ddos.

Seems like they're coming back up... Still not sure what caused this, or where it's monitored.
