First of all, the public conversation is weird, because people conflate all kinds of different things under the term "AI". This term is slowly becoming meaningless, like "chemicals" or "drugs".

Secondly, your crazy uncle having dumb conversations with ChatGPT does not have any real connection, in practice, to Palantir supplying the US Military with flawed intelligence.

"How do you cope with knives being used to stab people? Your house is full of these weapons, that create so much suffering! You're basically guilty by proxy of all stabbing crimes. You should feel bad!"

Why should I have to cope with it? Unless you’re only asking Palantir employees or whoever actually made the decision, there is no blame on the industry. You may as well ask workers at a hammer factory if they feel guilt when another factory’s machete is used by some psycho in a murder.

It’s not news. AI was already being used that way. It’s just that now better ai is being used to do that.

To be 100% honest, fifteen years of woke this and woke that trying to urge me to be sad or angry for this and for that have largely desensitised me to most things.

AI is being used to target and bomb children? Such is life. It is what it is.
