I think this is a general truth alongside "take personal responsibility" as a pushback to material harms to society from corporate entities.

I am not optimistic about aspects of the future, but the "doomer" distraction tends to "do nothing, be passive, comply" rather than "fight back and change things"

So I think it has this distraction quality in common with other things we are told by entities seeking to profit from our passivity.

A twist I didn't forsee is the government aggressively pushing for lax deployment controls to favour construction investment in the region to make DC for Hyperscaler AI, and so marginalising local community pushback which is about direct amenity consequences in noise and other pollution, by simultaneously saying "but you all want it" and "if we don't do this, we're doomed, doomed I say, its like holding back the tide, we're horse-breeders facing the arrival of the petrol engine"

We're not actually doomed to failure if we reject AI industry, and we don't all want it, and the loss of amenity is irrecoverable in many instances, and so chosing not to deploy the DC, or the AI, is a fine, and viable alternative.
