    This whole kerfuffle made me curious how common it is for a geographic object between two countries to be called by different names and it is surprisingly (at least to me) common!

      Examples include:

      River through India and Bangladesh (Ganges)

      Body of water between Britain and France (English Channel)

      Gulf between Iran and Arabian Peninsula (Iran and Intl. Community: Persian Gulf; Many Arab countries: Arabian Gulf)

      Moutain on China-North Korea border. (China: Long White Mountain; N Korea: White-Head Mountain)

      River forming part of China-North Korea border

      River forming part of China-Russia border

      Sea between Korean and Japan

      Islands controlled by Japan, claimed by China
