I agree it seems more to be about "receives patches still or not", which is different compared to if major feature development essentially stopped.
This is an imperfect system because its trying to assess a situation that has no actual contract. But for 90% of titles or more, when a game is flipped to done it won't suddenly be revived at a later date. The Witcher 3 being hte exception not the rule.
Counter strike 2, Dota 2, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption etc. the list goes on. Everyone would consider these games maintained not incomplete. Maybe just merge not yet into complete? The ‘pending’ is more reasonable the ‘not yet’ list is clear nonsense.
That is why most of those games listed will have the "live service" tag. This isn't really a website for figuring out if live service games are complete. Its more for determining if a singleplayer game you are interested in has released every post launch dlc.
People do wish to be informed if a game is missing core content and features. People in general don’t see it as a negative if new content is added to an otherwise complete game. You have a mismatch here with general consensus.
This mismatch means this is a site that only has worth to yourself. Which is ok if you’re ok with that. If you want others to gain value you have to change to meet their expectations.
So it’s up to you. You can stick to this idea and keep this website as you want it or you can adjust to the feedback given here and accept that these games are considered complete by the vast majority.
I wonder how I can best account for this in the system...
I think if you have to keep adding these caveats to some of the most popular games of the past decade, then something about your classification criteria is fundamentally broken.
> Released, but content still planned
Silksong is like this, there are other games where they release patches for years?
Is done no longer supported? I ask because take any paradox grand strategy game, if I understand your rubric, they're done only if they are no longer the supported mainline game, IE Crusader Kings 2 is done, as 3 is where all the support is going?
Obviously this is imperfect because look at the witcher 3, after more than a decade they announced a new DLC (Which is a tie in to the new game but still)
But if this is your rubric, and you find an audience that finds value from this rubric, I don't mean to denigrate your work here!
As much as endless updates can seem like you are getting your money worth or a nice excuse to revisit a game, there is a real value to just leaving your work be. Let it face the test of time by allowing it to age.
For instance, https://isitdoneyet.gg/game/warhammer-40000-rogue-trader is getting a DLC, see https://store.steampowered.com/app/3650060/Warhammer_40000_R.... The source you list on that page is an individual DLC that's part of the Season Pass.
imo the analogy would be like to eg https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/iphone-17-pro/ what you are presenting is "when was this last released" as opposed to a forward looking "should you buy this now"
but even thats not true because you are considering future stuff, so maybe its jus the framing of "done" vs "should i get into it now" not being the same thing when the definition of done is more stuff is coming
i love the recommendation engine though!!! make it more prominent!
Alright that was just the intro, rant below:
> We evaluate games based on developer communications — announcements, patch notes, DLC listings, and official roadmaps — to determine whether all planned content has shipped.
But just looking through the first few pages really has me curious as to the formula your AI cooked up because the reasoning is either vague or doesn't make sense(at least to me) why the game isn't considered complete.
Some examples:
Grand Theft Auto V Legacy (not complete, reason: Removed from storefront) what? So until it comes back to steam's storefront(which is very unlikely at least for the near future) gta5 legacy is considered "incomplete"?
Elden Ring(the base game) isn't done because DLC - "The Tarnished Pack" which consists of cosmetics for your horse, a couple new weapons and armor sets and "new classes", which because its a FromSoft game just means, slightly different starting stats and a unique starting armor set. All of which are essentially just goodies from the Nintendo Switch release coming to other platforms now. There are a few NPC invasions as well which seem to be the only legitimate changes/modifications to the original world.

Just driving the knife deeper for fans of the franchise
To me, it seems like there will probably be more units of DLC coming the more of a success the game is proving so far, and that it could keep coming pretty much indefinitely. So if you viewed such a game as "not done" you'd sit out a lot of widely loved new games "waiting for them to be done" for a long time.
