    And awful. Cars (including all electric cars) have presented and exacerbated very serious problems, both directly and indirectly, for which no solution has yet been found. Cars brought a ton of benefits, certainly, but come with a very steep cost. Whether or not they're a net benefit remains debatable to this day.

    Robotics may want to be careful about drawing a comparison to the advent of the auto industry.

      Very much besides the point. The point being that automation often enables other things, not just making the thing they automate directly more efficient.
