    The marketing team picked it up as the latest fad to fan, and once marketing picks up a term to use it to advertise, that term is lost forever as to its actual original meaning.

    I think its possible that the confusion has arisen from Microsoft's misnamed Azure Devops. Instead of understanding the fundamentals they link their perception to the product. They say they are using devops but actually referring to ADO. Extremely frustrating at times. I personally know of one case where a company uses Azure devops and only utilises the agile boards.
