    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Escapist_(magazine)

    > Enthusiast Gaming sold the website to Gamurs Group in September 2022. [...] The entire video team, including Croshaw, resigned to form an employee-owned outlet, Second Wind [...] In July 2025, Gamurs sold The Escapist to Clickout Media.

    > Under Clickout Media, The Escapist refocused its content to create reviews of online casinos and other gambling-related promotions. In 2026, Clickout Media laid off the majority of The Escapist staff, only maintaining a small staff of "AI editors" to create AI-generated content.

Whether this article or its author are real or not, The Escapist is a necro brand. It has been dead for years. All the people with talent have already left.

I used Prestel way back in the 1987 or so. It felt a lot more like Teletext/Ceefax, with basic blocky graphics. I didn't get a chance to use the chat rooms or interactive side of it much.

At this point in time, like the early/mid nineties internet, it was quite nerdy and relatively few normies had infiltrated it. I also remember it being free of advertising and scammers.
