Ricardo Semler created a school where where kids could pick what to do. He described a fascinating process where some kids only played video games for a good while. They were far far behind then discover that other kids learned all kinds of things like reading and writing. They dropped gaming, learned to read/write incredibly fast then stuck with that study speed and raced ahead of everyone. The joke seems to be that it was their own choice, not a forced labor prison sentence.
