I want to enjoy the benefits of mechanical simplicity and reduced environmental impact. I don’t want an always-connected computer on wheels. Is that too much to ask?
Just posting to spread awareness. You may say what I did was wrong or not, but that is not the core of the issue here.
The thing I want to spread is that: according to Tesla you do not own your car. You could have purchased heated seats via mobile app (called Winter Package) and later have it remotely removed by Tesla cloud config update.
Currently almost all features in the car are software controlled. Technically Tesla can, and now showed they have the will, to disable part of your cars one by one if they do not like what you did with it.
It's like AUDI not liking your custom exhaust or ECU, and then disabling your heated seats and cruise control.
Mind you there was no modifications to the car hardware or software. It's like if Apple would disable your cameras because they did not like type of USB-C pendrive you plugged in the phone.
I will be looking now deeply into jailbreaking car properly because this thing is just too scary. Next time they just remove my keycard and app access so no one can drive my car "for greater good"?
If they put in TOS that they can brick the car fully if you insult Elon, does it make it right? Tomorrow your car just stops driving, because you over speed for example? Hell no
