    NULL indicates one of two things: 1) overloaded types or 2) business-process violation at runtime. It is impossible to say which of these is worse, but they are different kinds of things, so that they are handled by different roles, each of which can point to the other and say "it's their fault!". And that is why they cannot be solved.
