I'm sure the many software engineers employed in his companies love to hear that.

it's even stupider than the headline makes it sound:

    > I think actually things will move maybe even by the end of this year to where you don’t even bother doing coding. The AI just creates the binary directly

if a freshman CS student said this it'd be an understandable mistake, you'd explain why LLMs write source code but then we still rely on "traditional" compilers and runtimes and the decades of work that's gone into optimizing them.

if you take Musk's ketamine-addled ramblings at face value, I guess the LLM outputs machine code directly...and then when I tell it to change something about the program, it...decompiles the entire thing, makes the change, and then re-emits the machine code?

and if 2 or more engineers are working on the same program...what happens? do you check the binary in with P4-style locking and only allow 1 engineer at a time to run the decompile-change-recompile cycle at once?

this is a stupid idea even by Elon Musk standards

yup, and humans will land in mars in 2022. At least, that's what I heard from Musk.

This needs to be prepended with the fact that it's an Elon Musk quote

Based on Musk's history of bold predictions, coders have at least a decade left.
