We need to start to come up with vastly different ideas other than make more damn datacenters when we have a ton of computers on the edge. Look I wont say I have all of the answers, but we have got to start to have a conversation before this companies just use the laws to lock everyone else out.

I wrote this to start a conversation and as I get a better idea ill try to share that as well

I wouldn't try to directly fight the oligarchs; AI is naturally centralizing, even more so than most tech. State of the art requires massive scale. Local will always lag even if it eventually catches up. Edge compute will manage last mile delivery as it does now. You will need to share centralized compute if you want state of the art.

Build collectivized compute cooperatives in parallel to the OAI, Anthropic, Meta, GOOG, etc. At least then some of the compute will be controlled in a distributed manner. This is the only solution I think is viable. Successfully doing this is non trivial, but there are existing precedents that survived the entire computing age thus far, so I don't know why it wouldn't work this time.
