Apple touted how focused they are on privacy with Apple Intelligence back in WWDC 2024.

It turns out that Apple Intelligence is a huge flop and that privacy is very very low in the list of importance for normal, non-HN users. The first thing for people is that it needs to be useful, which Apple Intelligence failed to demonstrate. Instead of spending all that time and effort on privacy, they should have went all in on competing with OpenAI and Google. Worry about privacy later.

    > But the gap between “Apple is taking privacy seriously” and “Apple is routing your queries through Google” is a noticable gap.

Gap? Google has been the default provider for Spotlight queries for more than a decade.

agree, apple’s brand is known as more exclusive and private than google’s & anyhow google had a lot of backlash “recently” regarding ai (ie in the New Yorker) so apple should frame its comparative advantage of privacy as a gap from competitors’ offerings
