For my use case, you are making mountain out of a mole hill. I use AntiX linux with XFCE. I have to use zoom professionally with writing tablet on my laptop for hours daily.
Never faced even tiny bit of a problem. Never have to install any drivers for tablet. Nothing.
AntiX is fully usable and very fast Debian based OS and doesn't uses systemd. It uses runit.
runit do not manages both, system and user services. XFCE is out dates and many softwares will be Wayland only. xfce4-wayland will be based on labwc. Modern Linux can be without X11 or systemd but not without Wayland
