I’ve been writing in a journal since around 2019. Not every day or consistently, but I’ve built up quite a few entries.
I tried Day One at one point and loved it. However, when I discovered Obsidian, I realized how important it was to store my files on my own computer. To actually own them. To be responsible for them. I didn't want to depend on someone else’s servers or business decisions.
Since then, I haven’t been able to find a journaling app that truly fits what I want:
- Fully local files
- One time payment
- No subscription lock in
- Simple, focused on writing and preserving memories
- Optional AI tools you can use when you want, but never forced on you
Most apps either push subscriptions, store everything in the cloud, or try to become productivity systems instead of personal memory spaces.
So I’m building the app I’ve been looking for.
A simple journaling app designed around ownership, longevity, and flexibility. Your files stay on your computer. You can explore them with AI if you want to. Or ignore it completely.
If this resonates with you, I’ve put up a small landing page with a waitlist. I’d love to share progress as I build it.
Would love to hear your thoughts too.
But of course, it’s my preference. You can absolutely use Obsidian.
