I noticed my Tailscale-based homelab was struggling to serve basic web traffic via an ingress VM, and figured out the problem was DERP-related. Tailscale recently announced the GA of Peer Relays [1], and I wonder if the timing is not a coincidence: e.g. their centrally hosted DERP servers are getting overwhelmed, and they're hoping to offload some traffic to customer-hosted relays.
