It definitely feels like we're in this general scarcity-vibe in America, but it's also interesting how intellectualism can mask what is just base level fears and anxieties people have. Maybe specifically that like, this version of "AGI will destroy all people and destroy all the jobs" feels like a uniquely American viewpoint. It doesn't make it wrong, but then if people are being truly rational, why does it feel so embedded in it's cultural context?
It's also interesting to me, maybe I need to read more about China, but it feels like China is having their abundance moment just as we're heading into our own scarcity moment.
But in general, I'd say there's too much going on macroeconomically and otherwise to think that fears of AI creating this jobpocalypse are definitely logical.
