FWIW, I've made comments on here and other social media that got high scores that later turned out to be wrong, and comments on here and other social media that got low scores (many downvotes), which later turned out to be correct (and provably/objectively/unambiguously so).

Popularity doesn't mean much, if anything. Don't worry about 'internet points'. Just chat and exchange ideas.

(note: I've heard some folks use extensions or tamper monkey scripts to remove visibility of likes/upvotes/downvotes, so they aren't unduly influenced by 'internet points', enabling them to focus solely on discourse).

I feel ya on this one and have been in /new trying to help, but yours is a comment which also breaks one of the rules:

Your account is 45 days old, and it sounds like you came to HN with many specific expectations - which we failed to meet.

Might we ask where you got those expectations? HN doesn't do much marketing, to have mislead you there. "Move fast and break things" pretty much ended in the 2010's. We've always been far politer than the current X. And karma is heavily downplayed, both by HN's UI and by the culture here.
