My dad was a mechanical and electrical engineer and throughout the 1970s he was obsessed with the burgeoning home computer movement. Whether you’re a collector or an early computing historian, my dad’s obsession with the Altairs and his correspondence with MITS reveals two immutable truths about computing: 1) being on the cutting edge also means having to figure a lot of things out on your own and 2) getting quality ram is a costly process

That's impressive and good luck. So sorry your dad is no longer with us.

I had an Altair and disk drives which I loaned to a friend for safe keeping, no doubt in a landfill long ago.

But I still have the IMSAI, less disk drives, and boxes full of S-100 cards and original documentation. It might actually be operational with some ribbon cable replacement. No correspondence, but I do have a copy of Midnight Engineering, signed by the OTHER Bill Gates.

    No plans.
