TIL: 2/3rds of wheat varieties & a 1/3rd of the maize varieties grown worldwide are developed by a Mexico-based non-profit organisation, known by its Spanish initials CIMMYT.

The special seeds developed by the org are widely used in India.

Title: The ‘Green Revolution’ transformed global agriculture. Now it’s adapting to climate change

    The sentence you've misquoted:

    > Through its breeding program, it has developed about two-thirds of the wheat varieties and a third of the maize varieties grown worldwide.

... developing varieties and wheat production are two very-different things. In Maize specifically the world has eliminated a lot of varieties in favour of low-fiber, high-sugar varieties.
