You mean I can't take the Nobel Peace Prize by force? Can't be true, I'm the most peaceful guy the world has ever seen.

I’m surprised they had to make this clarification. In what world does any prize like this “count” if regifted?

The people whose behaviors are ultimately leading to this statement don't care about the spirit of the prize or whether it counts. It's about who's "the greatest" and forcing others to submit to power.

Author Knut Hamsun (1920 literature Nobel laureate) gave the medal to Goebbels. After the war, he was arrested and explained that extreme Anglophobia was the source of his sympathies with the Nazi regime.

Born in 1859, he would have seen the “spheres of influence” of great powers. And some superpowers are back to speaking that way. Who would Hamsun have chosen today?

I'm going to start buying used trophies at the flea market.

I bet you'll be the very best at that!

I’m going to make a trophy just for that! I got second place in the penultimate section. But not after my trophy arrives!

Machado is young, fit and now has this prize that will last forever and will 'stand for all time' according to the OP.

Why would she genuflect to Trump to get in on the Venezuela transition government?

I think winning the first proper election is also far better optics than being installed by Trump.

I also think the Nobel comittee sealed Maduro's destiny with their choice back in November. All of a sudden Venezuela was on Trump's radar because it was signaled as 'the thing' to solve in order to receive the Nobel.

I thought it is the same. /s
