I asked @grok to make me [flagged]-Free HN. The stream is available in some handy json-format, but to our astonishment the [flagged]-stuff is hidden elsewhere available only to signed subscribers inside the browser.

The criteria for hn content modwration is pretty clear - politics in general are avoided while interesting subject matter possibly relevant to the thacker community is allowed. I see articles which could be interpreted as leaning one political direction or another but those posts are usually of some informational value and require lottle effort to avoid/hide if you don't think it fits the content policy.

"turned off [the] flags" is the phrase to look for:

Well, when something is flagged, users (or at least users with enough karma) can "vouch" for it. I'm not sure what happens then - whether it auto-unflags, or whether the mods get a notice to take a look, and make a decision whether to override the flags or not.

I think the mods do, at times, unflag things that are flagged outside the "vouch" mechanism. One way to trigger that is to email the mods and ask them to look at a particular article. They may look for more than just the content of the article (though I'm pretty sure they look at that). They may also look at their logs to see who flagged it and if there's any pattern of brigading.
