I like how Suleyman comes across in his book, seems like a good guy. But I don't like that he joined Microsoft and his twitter account is shilling MS Copilot, which everyone hates afaik.

I get the impression that Suleyman's main talent was being friends with Demis Hassabis when he started DeepMind. Hassabis is something of a genius, skilled programmer and PhD in neuroscience. Sulyman doesn't seem that up on AI but was mates with Hassabis which was ok till he was let go for being an arsehole ("very demanding and pretty relentless 'management style.')

He never struck me as a scientist. I think he described himself in his book as an ethicist and negotiator mainly.

The copilot integration everywhere is incredibly annoying and intrusive, but the copilot site appears just to be a light wrapper over ChatGPT. I use it from time to time, it's alright.

Recent interview with him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIifmbE2Ztw - I found it a bit odd but I can't put my finger on why.

What has he actually achieved in his time there so far? For that matter, I still find it weird they chose him of all people to lead their AI efforts.

I don't understand. I thought Microsoft already had this?
