I bought a Nokia phone a couple years ago and tried it for a month. I went back to a smartphone, despite my general dislike of them.

- Unlike the author I really like having maps, and also notifications about police, hazards, traffic, etc

- I found the texting completely unusable. It might have been the particular phone but it was so inconvenient as to be almost impossible. And I used T9 regularly when I was younger.

- I do like to be able to read my emails, even if I don’t care about immediately replying

- I found the web browser sufficient for basic stuff

- there’s a whole class of travel related stuff that would make it very hard to just have a dumb phone
