No mention of how common this is. Anyone know?
    • trod12345 months ago
Fairly common from what I hear, its gone completely Orwellian or Maoist, depending on your perspective.

Bad people pretending to be good doing bad things to torture people based on the bad people's false accusations and coercive evil behavior. I can't imagine a world where any rational person believes that depriving people of their professions/jobs through false accusation and targeted Zersetzung-style gangstalking (i.e. criminal harassment) is a good thing.

Cancel culture has always been based in identity politics, which are the anti-thesis of American principles, anyone with half a brain knows where that came from historically.

The moment you can't communicate for fear of reprisals as a result of someone else twisting your words out of context is the moment society begins its slow march to complete collapse and eventual annihilation/extinction. Its a small but objective indicator.

By the time the slow-witted realize this, its often too late to pull back from the maelstrom, and the loudspeaker/algorithm/technology gives them privileged position to drive the boat straight into the center, and keep doing this drowning out the sane voices that want to survive and have a future.

When there is no ability to communicate, there can be no basis for non-violent conflict resolution, no shared context, and its been known for quite awhile that isolation drives people insane. A spiraled loop of madness.

People are often quite blind when it comes to how communication specifically impacts their psychological state, and thus are powerless to alter or control their heading. The science inflicted on them to induce towards automata is beyond their ken or ability to react.

      Sad state of affairs overall.

This isn't something that used to need to be said. The really sad fact is that they even had to remind people that you shouldn't victim blame.

Interesting to look back at yesterday's comments here and in other online spaces. People like jumping to the conclusions they've prepared for themselves.
          • zahlman5 months ago
The comment you're replying to is not from yesterday, and it's factually incorrect.
        • zahlman5 months ago
          > a straight white 22 year old RWNJ

I had to look up this acronym. Apparently it stands for "right-wing nut job".

I genuinely don't understand how you came to this conclusion.

      • cosmicgadget5 months ago
Did it? Is Medal of Freedom recipient Rush Limbaugh too beneath mainstream? How about Fox News pundits after Paul Pelosi was attacked?

I don't think this is new.

      >the shooter is a MAGA republican who cosplays as Trump, and Charlies last words were a racist dog whistle

All of this is factually incorrect.

Unless you interpret a Hallowe'en costume (i.e., something that comes with the message that this is a scary person not to be idolized) as "cosplay" (https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/tyler-robinsons-chill...), the primary suspect (out of respect to the justice system, I must continue to admit the possibility that they got the wrong guy, until the trial has concluded) did nothing of the sort. (Aside from which, he would have been 14 at the time.) Apparently some people are circulating images of him in a MAGA shirt, but these are photoshopped (https://leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2025/09/fact-check-tyler-...). There were Antifa slogans and memes on the bullets and the shooter targeted a conservative, and he is known to have opposed Kirk ideologically (https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/hey-fascist-catch-messages-w...). He is very obviously not a "MAGA Republican".

Charlie Kirk's last words were to ask for a clarification, arguably in a pointed way, intended to imply that gang violence should be counted as mass shooting when it otherwise meets the definition. Even if you take a logical leap based on the statistics showing that the perpetrators of such violence are generally non-white, there is nothing racist about pointing this out. The statistics are what they are, and saying so does not attribute the conduct to non-white people in general. If claims like this are made off-limits then it becomes impossible to discuss a real problem that results in many deaths.

Calling the markings on the casings, "antifa" is premature, in my opinion. The arrows are a Helldivers II reference. "Bella Ciao" appears in Far Cry 6 and is featured on a Groyper Spotify playlist. (The suspect cosplayed as a Groyper meme, and Groypers hate Charlie Kirk, so it adds up.) UwU is a reference to furries.

My guess is he's a terminally-online gamer/channer/Groyper and he was trying to troll news organizations into broadcasting his spicy memes. But this is just my guess, and until we get more evidence, my guess is worth about as much as your "antifa" theory, i.e., zilch.

        • zahlman5 months ago
And what about the "Hey, fascist! Catch!" one?

It comes across to me like you're ignoring a plain reading of the evidence in favour of one that refers to an even more cryptic group. (There are also other comments in the discussion arguing that this group disdains political violence.)

          • h8tml5 months ago
The full etching was ""Hey fascist! Catch! ^ > vvv" (an up arrow, a right arrow, and three down arrows). This is a Helldivers 2 input for calling in an "Eagle 500kg Bomb."

The plain evidence is that each etching is a reference to an extremely online/gamer meme, not leftist slogans.

            > The Terminids Icon Terminids, sometimes referred to as the Terminid Horde[1] or Terminid Swarm, and commonly called Bugs, are one of the enemy factions in the Second Galactic War. They have control over 21 planets. The Terminids have been identified as "Fascist"[2] by Super Earth Icon Super Earth, despite the individual Terminid clearly being incapable of comprehending the ideology.

            https://helldivers.fandom.com/wiki/Terminids

But you're missing my point, which is that it's too early to speculate. Pundits were blaming trans people and leftists before the bullets were even found.

Statistics are a game, where picking the starting point guarantees who wins. I shall demonstrate : Statsticly the vast majority of profits from gun crime goes to white people, who own the gun companys, distribution, and sales of guns, and the jails that then are imensly profitable in holding the criminals who shoot people. I win.

After a high profile political assassination in the Netherlands (and this time it was a confirmed radical leftist) all mainstream politicians immediately banded together to keep democracy and the rule of law intact. Instinctively the media and politics knew that the nation was on a knife's edge. It was rally around the flag time.

When I compare that to how Trump and Fox behaves it doesn't bode well.
